KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Monday morning commuters were greeted with wet roads and a little lightning.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for most of the Kansas City area from about 6:30 a.m. to 6:45 a.m.

Another warning was issued for most of the area from about 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and extended for parts through 9:14 a.m.

As of 9 a.m., 10,000 Evergy customers and 2,000 Board of Public Utilities customers were without power due to the storm. By 12:30 p.m. customers affected were down to 6,000 for Evergy and 1,400 for BPU.

Storms moved into the metro in the early hours of the morning and cleared the area around 10 a.m.

The biggest danger from the storms was high wind, hail and flash flooding.

Some reports of high wind were received, including 55 miles per hour at the downtown airport, 60 miles per hour at Kansas City International Airport and 45 miles per hour at the Johnson County Executive Airport.

Drivers should take caution as they hit the roads and watch for slick spots from the rain.

Once storms move through, it's expected to be a beautiful day with off-and-on sunshine and a high around 80 degrees.

More storms could move through overnight.
