SPRING HILL, Kan. — An area mother is stressing gun safety and responsibility after her daughter was almost shot in her car.
Jamie Lingner was driving south on U.S. 169 Highway around 5:30 p.m. Sunday in Spring Hill, taking her daughter and a friend home from soccer when they heard a loud noise – like something hit her SUV.
Lingner's daughter had been leaning up in her seat in the back of the SUV. When she turned around, she saw a bullet laying on the seat.
After parking the vehicle, Lingner saw a bullet hole on the door. The bullet barely missed her daughter.
"That's the message, gun safety," said Lingner "That before you have a firearm and shoot a firearm, you need to know where that bullet is going to land. I mean this is a 9 milimeter gun."
She was driving in the area by the AGC Glass on North Webster Street. She said police told her they are questioning people who live in the area, but have not given an update on if any criminal charges can be filed.
"We just feel very lucky,” Lingner said. “We feel very blessed, fortunate, that this could have went very differently yesterday."
The Johnson County Sheriff's Office, which is investigating the shooting, did not respond Monday afternoon with information or comment.
