UPDATE, June 18 | The Aug. 24 start date will apply to all UM System campuses.
ORIGINAL STORY, June 10 | The University of Missouri announced Wednesday it plans to resume in-person classes at the system's flagship university in Columbia as part of a revised academic calendar this fall.
University of Missouri System President and Interim Chancellor Mun Choi released a statement to the MU campus, which said he looks forward to students returning on Aug. 24.
“I can’t tell you how excited I am to hear the roar of a fully populated Tiger campus in a few weeks,” Choi wrote. “We’ve missed everyone and will be thrilled to see both new and returning Tigers back in their offices, classrooms, laboratories and work settings.”
Choi said those returning to campus will be expected to participate in personal health monitoring, social distancing and “other precautions.”
Choi said leaders would be announcing additional details as plans “are formalized," including possible changes to the normal academic calendar.
MU suspended in-person classes on March 11 amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the UM System, which also includes the University of Missouri-Kansas City, moved strictly to online classes for the remainder of the spring semester on March 13.
Mizzou athletics programs began summer training programs this week, welcoming students back to campus for the first time in nearly three months.
In-person classes also will resume at Kansas State University this fall.
