KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City attorney Tom Pickert was remembered Thursday at The Community Christian Church.

The service lasted about an hour and included emotional speeches from friends and family, including Pickert's wife, Emily Riegel.

"So tender-hearted and so connected to other people. It allowed him to be that person in the room who didn't just want to know others. He wanted to understand others. If you ever spent any time with Tom you never had to guess what he was feeling or if he was being genuine. I'm seeing now he was the most genuine imperfect person I have ever known," said Riegel

Pickert was shot and killed in front of his Brookside home on Oct. 25 shortly after walking his two young sons to school.

Police have not named a suspect in the case, but have connected two men to a white van seen speeding away from the crime scene.

Those who knew Pickert said he was a friendly, hardworking and well-known attorney in the metro.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for contributions to be made to the Tom Pickert Memorial Fund at Country Club Bank on the Plaza. The funds will go towards Pickert’s sons, specifically their college educations, and other charitable causes.
