KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A local organization in our area called "My Bear Jeff" aims to give back to kids impacted by trauma, one teddy bear at a time.
The founder, Rachel Cohen was diagnosed with a rare heart condition at the age of four, and after beating the odds, she dedicated her life to helping kids just like her.
For each bear purchased, one is given to local organizations.
"So right now I have three giveback partners: Children's Mercy, Kids TLC and Front Porch Alliance, and those are all three here in Kansas City. So whoever ends up buying the bear, they can choose where their bear goes, and so that will get donated to that organization," Cohen explained.
Cohen started the effort at the beginning of this year, and so far, over 600 bears are ready to be dropped off.
Each bear is 14 inches tall with a heart stitched on the left side - symbolizing the procedure Rachel went through - and an animated mouth to bring a smile.
