KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Local networking organization "Black Excellence KC" is highlighting the importance of Black-owned businesses on Juneteenth.
The organization's quarterly event aims to connect business owners and professionals in Kansas City.
Co-founder Kiona Sinks explained the event, which will be held on June 19, encourages people to financially support select restaurants.
The call for action from BXKC comes after Bayou On The Vine closed the doors to their location in the 18th and Vine entertainment district.
"We see an example of what happens when you don't support black businesses with Bayou On The Vine. It's unfortunate that perhaps maybe pre-COVID-19, if we would've really patronized them here at 18th and Vine, they'd probably should be right now still reopening or planning to reopen," Sinks explained.
Restaurants that are highlighted in the event include:
- Soiree Steakhouse
- KC Cajun
- Elevate Bar and Grill KCK
- Wings Café
BXKC's networking event will be held virtually at 7:30 p.m. Friday. More information can be found on their website.
