KANSAS CITY, Mo. — DiEerin Jamison knows where she’ll be this Saturday night. The 11-year-old from Kansas City, Missouri, will be in front of the television to see episode one of the newest season of the reality TV show "Make48."

“I’m really excited for it,” she said.

In the show, teams have 48 hours to create an invention. The show filmed this season at Kansas City's Union Station in March.

DiEerin was a member of a team with her mother and two teachers from Operation Breakthrough, an agency in Kansas City that empowers families in poverty with education, advocacy and emergency aid.

“I’m really excited to see (my family’s) reaction to what we made and how it turned out,” DiEerin said.

The young inventor could not say whether her team won the competition. She said competing on the show opened her up to other people’s perspectives and gave her inspiration to continue inventing.

“We’re making something in my classroom right now,” DiEerin said. “I was thinking of a way to stop gun violence by making a mask and put a tiny camera in it.”

DiEerin said she’s using skills she learned on the competition as she tackles this new task.

"Make48" premieres at 5:30 p.m. Saturday on KCPT, Kansas City’s PBS station. A new episode will air on Saturday evenings for 10 weeks.
