KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Worlds of Fun in in Kansas City, Missouri, will boast the Midwest’s longest mat racing water slide when the Riptide Raceway debuts next summer.
The new slide, which will be located in the Oceans of Fun water park, will be five stories high and feature four side-by-side tunnels, Worlds of Fun said in a news release Thursday.
Riders will race down 476 feet on a slide that also features a winding hillside, a 360-degree loop and a “rapid final descent before splashdown,” according to the news release.
“With its thrilling twists and competitive elements, Riptide Raceway is sure to be an instant fan-favorite,” Worlds of Fun Vice President and General Manager Tony Carovillano said in the release. “We’re constantly looking for new ways to delight our guests, whether it’s an event like the international street festival Grand Carnivale that debuted this summer, to great new dining venues, and now this exciting water park attraction.”
The Riptide Raceway will be designed and manufactured by WhiteWater, based in Vancouver, Canada.
The slide will be the first thrill attraction added to the water park since 2013, according to Worlds of Fun. It will replace Diamond Head, which opened in 1982 and is one of the park’s original water slides.
Construction on the Riptide Raceway will begin this fall after the 2019 season ends.
