KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A new women's football league will expand to Kansas City with a debut this spring.

The Kansas City Force, part of the Extreme Football League or “X League,” will play its inaugural season home games against the Omaha Red Devils on May 8 and the Los Angeles Black Storm on June 27 at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena in Independence.

The X League is a women’s full-contact, 7-on-7 tackle football league, according to a news release.

“The X League and our Kansas City Force have tremendous potential for success here in this football crazed Kansas City metro,” said Larry Hovick, general manager of Silverstein Eye Centers Arena, in the release. “The game presentation is entertaining and the on-field football product is intense. It will be a must-attend for Kansas City football fans.”

The Kansas City Force will join teams across the country, including Seattle Thunder, Los Angeles Black Storm, Austin Sound, Denver Rush, Chicago Blitz, Atlanta Empire and Omaha Red Devils.

Tryouts for the team will be held on Jan. 18 at The Fieldhouse, 425 NE Mock Ave., Blue Springs. Registration begins at noon, and open tryouts will be held from 1-3 p.m.

Tickets to the team’s home games can be purchased at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena Box Office or at ticketmaster.com.
