KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for the Kansas City area.
NWS said a winter storm is expected to hit portions of central, north central, northeast, northwest and west central Missouri Thursday night, extending into Friday.
A mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain is to be expected, NWS said.
The precipitation will likely affect the Friday morning commute as snow transitions to sleet, freezing rain and then to rain. Slippery conditions could also cause problems during the Thursday evening commute, NWS said.
The transition to rain will likely take place in the early afternoon, NWS said, but areas to the north where cold air lingers longer will see the transition later.
NWS forecasted snow accumulations between one and three inches, and ice accumulations of two-tenths of an inch.
Winds could gust as fast as 35 mph.
