NWS issues winter weather advisory for Kansas City area

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory Monday afternoon for parts of east central and northeast Kansas, and central, north central, northwest and west central Missouri.

It will be in effect from 9 a.m. Tuesday to midnight Wednesday, NWS said.

Forecasters said mixed precipitation is expected with snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches possible south of Highway 36.

Ice accumulation of around one-tenth of an inch is possible as well.

NWS warned of slippery road conditions that could impact the morning and evening commutes.

NWS forecasted the storm would begin with freezing drizzle Tuesday morning, continuing into the afternoon hours with light snow by Tuesday night.

The snow will gradually end Wednesday afternoon, NWS said.
