Oak Grove church aims to build community back up after devastating tornado

Posted

Nearly a week after a tornado ravaged Oak Grove, residents are counting their blessing as local churches commit to helping them rebuild.

Food, support and shelter; many Oak Grove residents are still in need of everything after a tornado ripped through town on Monday.

The lead pastor of New Life Church, Todd Blansit, invited residents to service on Sunday to share his commitment to the community.

"A lot of them were affected by the tornado. If it wasn't their house specifically, everyone knows someone that's devastated by the storm. Being here in the community, we just knew that we have to do something," said Blansit.

During Sunday's church service families affected by the tornado were invited to the stage for a love offering.

"We just have some money for you guys. It's not a ton. It's not life changing money, but it's a start." said Blansit.

Convoy of Hope, a faith-based, humanitarian organization, will remove its disaster teams from the church parking lot soon. But Pastor Blansit said his church will continue serving families until each family is made whole.

"Our best desire is not to just start with people, but to also finish with people." said Blansit.
