KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City area could see severe weather Wednesday. Few people know the danger as well as people in Oak Grove.
On March 6, 2017, an EF-3 tornado hit, damaging or destroying nearly 500 homes. Our 41 Action News team asked what they would do now if the same conditions popped up.
Oak Grove resident Georgia Robinette said, “None of us took the warnings to heart at first.”
Now, her advice is:
- keep up to date on weather watches and warnings
- put a flashlight, blankets and water in your safe place
- remember to go to the innermost room of your home that doesn’t have windows
Mary Harmon lost her home in the tornado. Her advice is:
- take cover when the meteorologist tells you to
- do not go outside to watch weather events
- keep important documents in a safe place
- put shoes on and have a change of clothes nearby
The 41 Action News weather team will break into regularly scheduled programming during a major severe weather event. You can also download the 41 Action News app from the Apple App Store or Google Play store for on-the-go updates.
