KANSAS CITY, Mo. — If you heard a loud boom this morning in Overland Park, you aren't alone.

A spokesperson for the city said the sound was reported from the area of 143d and 167th streets and Quivira to U.S. 69 just before 9 a.m. Wednesday.

There have been no injuries or significant damage reported related to the sound, the spokesperson said.

Overland Park police and firefighters have investigated several potential causes for the blast sound, including construction, power transformers or possible sonic booms.

Contractors in the area didn’t report any blasting operations, though, and Evergy said there have been no outages in the area.

The spokesperson said some people who heard it said they think an aircraft could have caused a sonic boom, though investigators haven’t been able to confirm that as the cause.
