Olathe city council weighs 'Woodland Hills' home development proposal

OLATHE, Kan. -- The Olathe city council will consider Tuesday night whether or not to ask a developer to scale back its plans to build a 97-home neighborhood near Woodland Elementary School.

Prieb Homes plans to split 35 acres along Woodland Road near 115th Terrace into 97 lots. The subdivision would be named Woodland Hills. Current city rules in Olathe allow for that level of home density.

But Olathe city planners have argued that the rules, known as the Woodland Road Corridor Plan, have not been updated since 2004. Staff members suggest the council approve the plan with the stipulation that Prieb only develop 79 lots.

Planners argue reducing the number of lots will limit the traffic impact and density that come along with developments like these.

Tuesday's meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Olathe City Hall, 100 E. Sante Fe Road. It is open to the public.
