KANSAS CITY, Mo. — While much of the Kansas City area battled flooding rains Thursday, a neighborhood in Olathe wonders if there was a brief tornado as part of Thursday’s storms.
Photos and video from residents around 120th Street and Harold in Olathe show winds bending trees in one direction. Seconds later, the winds shift to a completely different direction.
The winds caused damage to a roof and tree limbs.
"It came out of nowhere,” Olathe resident Brian Wiley said. “It was quite the surprise for a Thursday afternoon."
41 Action News Chief Meteorologist Gary Lezak analyzed the video and the radar data at the time of the storm, estimated to be around 2:20 p.m. Thursday, and he said he couldn’t rule out a possible EF-0 tornado.
The National Weather Service has not yet made a classification to the type of damage reported.
