Olathe country artist a finalist in CMT contest

An Olathe country artist is trying to reach stardom, not with his singing but with his writing.

To get there, all he needs is a little help from you.

"I've always been a creative person and just knowing that hey maybe this song could be on the radio someday and someone could sing it, that's a big time artist, that just drives me," said Blaine Younger.

Young gave up performing his songs, to focus on writing them.

"Started doing that and we're having some luck with it now," he said.

A Country Music Television song writing contest chose his song 'PatiOasis' as one of the 10 best, out of 24,000 entries.

"Oh my gosh, and I called my wife right away," said Younger of his reaction.

The 10 remaining finalists are now left to a public vote on CMT's website.  If 'PatiOasis' wins, it's possible the song could someday be recorded by a major country artist.

Younger wrote the song about fun days, spending time with his family on the patio.

"I'm most excited about the doors opening and the exposure and getting the name out in front of industry pros," said Younger.

If they like what they hear, they could help Younger reach his real oasis -- A day on the patio with his own song on the radio.
