KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Wonder Shops and Flats are taking shape at 30th Street and Troost Avenue.

The former Wonder Bread factory is being transformed into a mix of apartments and shops called Wonder Shops and Flats.

Right now, there’s just one tenant moved in, BikeWalkKC.

"This new Wonder building space is like the perfect fit, it's in a great location and its surrounded by amenities for support transportation," said BikeWalkKC director of bike share and business, Eric Vaughan.

BikeWalkKC outgrew their old space in Midtown and saw the potential in this former Wonder bread factory built in 1910.

"You can absolutely feel the history in this building they left in place a lot of those historical components," said Vaughan.

Other tenants like a gym, coffee shop and brewery are in the works.

On the second floor are a few dozen apartments.

Throughout the building are iconic items like Twinkie bakery pans on the walls and Wonder Bread murals.

"It's been really fun, we're watching the building literally come to life," added Vaughan.

On the roof is a large open area of seating spaces and a Wonder Bread truck.

People who live in this neighborhood are noticing how much has changed already on Troost.

"It's exciting to see all these new things coming in," said nearby resident Scott Jolly.

Most of the tenants should move in by the end of the year.
