One man died Friday in pedestrian hit-and-run near Independence, Cypress

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man was killed Friday in a hit-and-run crash on a busy Kansas City, Missouri, street.

The vehicle, which was westbound on Independence Avenue, drove off before responding KCPD officers arrived at the scene about 7:50 p.m. near the intersection with Cypress Avenue.

Emergency crews were alerted when a bystander ran to a nearby Kansas City Fire Department Fire Station for help.

The man was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. KCPD confirmed shortly before 9:15 p.m. that the person subsquently died from those injuries.

Police did not immediately release a description of the hit-and-run driver or the vehicle involved.
