KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Overland Park Fire Department said one person had to be rescued from a fire in the 10200 block of Edelwiess Circle in Merriam Tuesday night.

Firefighters said smoke and fire were reported from a town home around 9 p.m.

One resident got out safely, but an adult man had to be rescued from just inside the front door. The man has mobility issues and needed help to get out.

Crews got the man out safely and then quickly put out the fire. No one was hurt.

The fire was contained to one unit in the building. Firefighters said the unit had no working smoke alarms.

The Red Cross is helping the two adults and their dog.

Everyone in other units in the building was able to stay in their homes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
