KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An online retailer of pet products is bringing more than 1,200 jobs to the Kansas City area.

Chewy announced on Tuesday that it will open an 800,000-square-foot fulfillment center in Belton, which is the largest city in Cass County.

The center, according to a news release, will be one of Chewy's largest fulfillment centers.

Missouri Gov. Mike Parson said in the release that he looks forward to working with Chewy as the company “grows and invests in our state.”

“Chewy, Inc.’s decision to expand in Belton and create new jobs for Missouri families is a testament to our ongoing business strengths even as we work to recover from COVID-19,” Parson said.

Diane Pelkey, vice president of communications and public relations at Chewy, said in the release that the company is “thrilled” to bring its business to Missouri.

“We’re so excited to be a part of this community and look forward to having a presence in the region,” Pelkey said.

Chewy was founded in 2011 and has headquarters in Florida and Massachusetts.
