KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Protesters who attended an Overland Park City Council meeting Monday night made their voices heard, but not about anything on the agenda.

They shouted about police actions during a July 24 protest at West 116th Street and Quivira Road.

The yelling peaked as the council voted, 9-2-1, to seek an investigation into whether Councilman Scott Hamblin should be removed from office.

Council members resorted to shouting over the protesters during discussion about the issues surrounding Hamblin.

Hamblin is accused in Johnson County District Court of misdemeanor domestic battery.

A council member asked Hamblin to resign at the last council meeting and Hamblin refused.

Mayor Carl Gerlach recently removed Hamblin from the council's Public Safety Committee.

The council voted to ask the Johnson County District Attorney's Office or the Kansas Attorney General's Office to investigate whether Hamblin violated the rules of conduct for a council member.

While the council clearly heard the protesters complaints, they took no official testimony or actions on last month's protest that included four arrests.
