Overland Park man selling classic car collection for St. Luke's Hospital

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — When you meet Frank Thompson, you’ll know cars are part of his DNA.

His collection of vintage and classic vehicles has grown over the years, but this year, he’s putting on the brakes as he auctions off dozens of cars from his collection.

Drivers drove several of his cars to the Overland Park Convention Center, getting ready to be auctioned off this weekend.

“A lot of people ask me well how can you give up the collection? Well yes, it's hard to give up, but when you stop and think about it, I've enjoyed it for many years,” Thompson said.

Thompson said proceeds from the auction will go to St. Luke’s Hospital, specifically for lung and heart physicians.

“Think about it,” Thompson said. “It's a piece of tin as opposed to saving a life.”

The cars up for auction are worth roughly three to $600,000.

The auction will start at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Overland Park Convention Center.

While the auction is on Saturday, you can preview the cars from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the center.
