OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — UPDATE 10 PM 10/15/2018: In Overland Park, the Brookridge Golf Course redevelopment plan is scheduled for discussion Monday evening.

The Overland Park City Council voted against the Brookridge Golf Course redevelopment plan Monday in an 8-4 decision.

Developers could return to the council with a new financing plan.

The current project is estimated to need $1.8 billion in funding.

In May, the council voted 7-4 to reject a plan that would start the first phases of the project, which would transform the area into five million square feet of retail, entertainment, apartments and office spaces.

On Monday night, the council considered requested star bonds and TIF financing to help fund the first phase of the project.

The old golf course is just north of I-435 on Antioch Road.

Those who are against the redevelopment are worried about traffic congestion.
