KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Parts of Interstate 29 were closed at Interstate 635 due to an overturned tractor-trailer which was carrying cows.

Around 1 a.m., a tractor-trailer carrying cattle rolled over at northbound I-29 and I-635. There were three additional collisions involving motorists and cattle on the roadway. Several cattle had to be euthanized at the scene.

Police closed portions of the road for several hours and asked drivers to avoid the area.

Southbound lanes of I-29 reopened just before 6:30 a.m. The exit from northbound I-29 to southbound I-635, where the truck overturned, reopened just before 9 a.m.

41 Action News traffic anchor Jade DeGood suggested these detour options:

For southbound I-29 drivers: Take 64th Street to Highway 169, then get on I-29 southbound.

For northbound I-29 drivers: Because the ramp to southbound I-635 is closed, take Highway 69 to Highway 9 to southbound I-635.

The Missouri Department of Transportation assisted with the cleanup.

There were no reported injuries to the tractor-trailer driver or other motorists involved.
