KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Olathe community gathered with Garmin employees and relatives celebrating the life of Srinivas Kuchibhotla, who was shot and killed at Austin's Bar & Grill last year in February.
Witnesses said the man who shot him mistakenly thought Kuchibhotla was Iranian. Kuchibhotla is from India.
His widow, Sunayana Dumala, said she chose March 9 because it is her husband’s birthday and she wanted to celebrate his life on the day of his birth and not the day he was shot and killed.
Mindy Corporon’s dad and son were killed in the Jewish Community shooting. Corporon and Sunayana have become great friends.
“Birthdays and holidays are so difficult to get through and she wanted to remember Srinivas one year after. She didn’t want to remember him in a big way on the day of the shooting because that was so traumatic. She wanted to remember him in celebration on the day of his birth,” said Corporal.
Walkers said they are hoping their walk will show the world that Olathe and the Kansas City Community are united in love and peace.
