KANSAS CITY, Mo. — For a lot of baseball fans, a trip to the game isn’t complete without a bag of peanuts. But one fan's treat can be deadly for fans with severe peanut allergies. Luckily, Kauffman Stadium is one of Major League Baseball’s first venues to offer a peanut-free area.
Travis Bryant, the Royals’ director of guest experience, said the team will prepare a suite for fans with peanut allergies five times this season. The suite holds 20 people. It is totally enclosed, with a wide, glass window offering fans in the suite a view of the field. A ticket to the suite includes food and soft drinks from a peanut-free menu. The space has a private bathroom. Fans in the suite never have to leave the room to enjoy the game, which greatly reduces the risk of coming in contact with nuts.
“It's great when we can get people out here who generally wouldn't be able to come out to a game and sit in the seating bowl; it's great for the kids especially who are able to come out and watch a game free of that worry,” Bryant said.
The stadium started selling tickets to this style of suite to families with peanut allergies in 2014 or 2015, according to Bryant. He said at the beginning, the Royals offered more games with this option, but the demand didn’t meet supply, so the team reduced the amount of times it prepares the suite.
The peanut-free suite is available during the following games during the 2019 season:
- Saturday, May 11, 6:15 p.m. vs. Philadelphia Phillies
- Sunday, June 9, 1:15 p.m. vs. Chicago White Sox
- Tuesday, July 16, 7:15 p.m. vs Chicago White Sox
- Sunday, Aug. 18, 1:15 p.m. vs New York Mets
- Sunday, Sept. 15, 1:15 p.m. vs. Houston Astros

A minor league baseball stadium in Connecticut announced it will not sell peanuts to fans, nor allow fans to bring peanuts to the venue this season all in an effort to accommodate fans with allergies.
