KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Investigators say icy conditions played a role in a small private jet sliding off the runway Wednesday morning at the Charles Wheeler Downtown Airport.

Officials say the pilot – the only person on board – was not injured.

Around 4:30 a.m., the plane attempted to land but ran out of runway and into an extended part of the runway designed to help stop planes.

An airport spokesperson said maintenance crews had previously treated the runways.

The airport re-opened around 10:30 a.m.
