KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Thermometers across the Midwest were left shivering Wednesday morning as temperatures dropped well below zero.
In Kansas City, temps dropped to as low as -5, but that would be quite the warm-up for folks in Chicago or northern Minnesota.
In this week’s episode of the 41 Files Kansas City podcast, we’re joined by Bemidji, Minnesota Mayor Rita Albrecht. Wednesday morning’s low in the northern Minnesota town: -37 degrees.
Albrecht says schools and organizations have been closed during the cold snap, but the days off have allowed teachers to hit the lake for ice fishing.
Closer to home but still in the ice box, residents in Chicago are dealing with frost quakes.
Former 41 Action News-turned-NBC 5 Chicago meteorologist Kalee Dionne called in to discuss how Chicagoans are embracing the cold by noting it’s freezing the city’s rat population.
