RAYTOWN, Mo. -- A driver hit and killed a man walking on a Raytown roadway Thursday evening, police said in a statement Friday morning.

The driver hit Reginald Early, a 67-year-old Raytown resident, as he was trying to cross Gregory Boulevard near its intersection with State Route 350 around 9 p.m. Thursday, police said.

Early later died from his injuries at the hospital.

The driver, 41, reportedly stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities, who said it did not appear likely "excessive speed or alcohol" were factors in the crash. There was no indication the driver would face any charges in connection to the incident.

If you saw the incident or have any information pertinent to the investigation, you can contact Raytown police at 816-737-6112. The investigation was ongoing as of Friday morning.

This is a developing story. This article will be updated as more information becomes available.
