St. Joseph police continue to investigate a suspicious death at Krug Park after a body was found on a park trail Sunday morning.
Sgt. James Langston with the St. Joseph Police Department says that they received a call around 9:20 a.m. Sunday morning that a jogger on the hiking and bike trail had discovered a dead body.
Langston says the death was quickly ruled suspicious.
"All I can say at this time is that officers upon their arrival to the scene quickly determined that the death was suspicious in nature and at that time investigators and crime scene was notified," Langston said.
Langston said that while the death is suspicious in nature it is not being ruled as homicide at this time, but an investigation is still underway.
Authorities said that at it is too early to tell if it was a random or targeted death and urge the public to use caution. Officials say the victim is a female in her late teens or early 20s.
"It would be too early to really speculate if this was a random event or a targeted event," Langston said. "However, what I can say is that everyone should use common sense when you're out in public. If you see something suspicious, then by all means, report it to police. But I wouldn't say that the parks are any more dangerous tonight."
Langston said that authorities hope to release more information on death later tonight or early Monday morning.
Krug Park remains closed at this time while police continue to investigate.
