Police ID man stabbed to death in Shawnee

SHAWNEE, Kan. — Shawnee police were dispatched during the early morning hours Aug. 8, 2018, for a physical disturbance in the 21900 block of West 51st Place.

Upon arrival shortly after 1 a.m., officers found a 57-year-old man who was later identified as David J. Paterno with severe injuries.

Despite first aid from the police officers and treatment from Johnson County Med-Act, Paterno died from his injuries at a local hospital.

According to officers at the scene, the man was stabbed to death and it is being investigated as a homicide.

There is no suspect in custody and police have not released any suspect information, but the case has been turned over to the Metro Squad
