Police issue warning about high school seniors playing 'assassin' water gun game

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Overland Park police recently issued a warning for parents with high-school aged students about the assassin game.

This is the time of year when seniors start playing a game in which they stalk a target and shoot them with a water gun. The game continues until only one person is left and crowned the winner.

"It works on like a one-week cycle," Mohamed Mansour, a Blue Valley West senior, said. "You get a target Sunday night and then you get one week to shoot your target with a water gun."

"A lot of times these kids are dressing in all black and some of these water guns do look like a real firearm," Overland Park Police Department Officer John Lacy told 41 Action News. "You're hunkered behind a bush or a car, a homeowner is going to get a little upset."

Schools districts don't sanction the game, but they are aware of it. Students from Olathe, Shawnee Mission, and Blue Valley schools all are taking part this spring.

Some students like Mansour understand the concern.

"I was camping out at night and I looked into my shadow," he said. "It's not really too good of an image if somebody just looks out his window and sees that."

The idea isn't to quash kids' fun.

"We're not trying to be a party pooper here," Lacy said. "We just want the kids to be safe."
