KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City police are asking for the public's help in identifying two people who were involved in a shooting at a BP gas station on Red Bridge Road.
The shootout occurred around 6 p.m. on June 9. It started with two men arguing and then escalated to a shootout between the two.
Witnesses said they heard more than a dozen gunshots. One bullet traveled a quarter of a mile, going through the window of a home, hitting 4-year-old Alijah Jones in the arm.
On Thursday, police released three new photos of the two suspects.
"The main suspect is a black male. He was wearing a white tank top and he had on blue shorts with a white stripe. There was also a female with him and she had on a colorful shower cap on and a short shirt with jean shorts," said Detective Dawn Minor with KCPD Assault Squad.
Police said one suspect is in custody and has been charged but has not given police any information regarding who the two people pictured are.
Police believe the man in the photos is the one who fired the shot that hit Alijah.
"I believe it's important because we've exhausted all of the leads that we tried to follow up with, so now we have to reach out to the community to assist in identifying the shooter and the female that's with him at the time of the shooting," said Minor.
Alijah is out of the hospital and police said he is doing well.
Since the shooting, police have not received any tips on the case.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call 816-234-5227 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
