KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Thousands have turned out to Mill Creek Park as part of a third straight day of protests in Kansas City.
The protest has remained peaceful Sunday afternoon, but an 8 p.m. curfew enacted Sunday morning by Kansas City, Missouri, Mayor Quinton Lucas might test that.
The curfew goes into effect at 8 p.m. and is enforceable for several areas across the city, including the Country Club Plaza, the Westport Entertainment District, the Central Business District and any Kansas City public park.
Kansas City, Missouri, Police Captain David Jackson said police want protesters to be in the park and exercising their First Amendment rights, adding that “we want it to be a positive day.”
As the day goes on, Jackson reiterated the seriousness of the curfew.
“If you are in an entertainment district or you are in a city park after 8 p.m., you are subject to arrest,” Jackson said. “By encouraging people to lave at 8 p.m. after they’ve demonstrated and after they’ve voiced their concerns, at 8 p.m., we can let them go home.”
