KANSAS CITY, Mo. — With the Chiefs-Patriots game postponed to Monday night due to positive COVID-19 tests, not everyone who bought a ticket can now attend the big game.
"We took the flight on Friday for the weekend, and lo and behold there’s no games scheduled for today," said Patriots fan Thomas Hannon, who lives near Boston.
Hannon and his family flew from Boston to watch his Patriots take on the Chiefs, but instead were sitting in Kansas City, Missouri's Power and Light District.
"Kind of disheartening by the NFL because we bought tickets," Hannon said, "and because they didn’t cancel the game, they just postponed it, that we can’t get reimbursed for the tickets."
It is Chiefs policy not to reimburse tickets unless the game is canceled, not postponed. Fans like Chris Cox, from South Carolina, told 41 Action News it's frustrating, as they can't stay for another day.
"I’m having to fly back out tomorrow morning so, the things is I don’t understand the difference in postponing one day, you’ll still have the same players playing on Monday as they would on Sunday," said Cox, a Patriots fan.
Mark Stache, a Chiefs fan from Chicago, had similar thoughts.
"Now we’re here, we went by the stadium, really stinks that we can’t go to the game and we can’t go back tomorrow night I have to get back to work," Stache said.
Some fans also spent a lot of money that they can't get back. Cox is out $700, while Hannon is out $1,000.
Other fans told 41 Action News they understand why the game was postponed and that they will be able to stick around.
"We’re still going to go," said Nick Capocelli from Salina. "It’s going to be a little bit of a crazy change, but we will still go."
Fan who did purchase tickets for Sunday's game will be able to use them Monday night. More information on the Chiefs ticket policy can be found on the Chiefs website.
