KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A proposed apartment complex on the site of the former Mission Bowl received a mixed reaction from residents and businesses owners.
The city of Mission held a public Zoom meeting on Monday to gather input from the public on the project by Sunflower Development Group that about roughly 30 people attended.
The complex would be purely residential and include 160 units, 85 percent of which would be studio or one-bedroom units. The rest would be two-bedroom units. Rent would range from $975 to $1,900 per month.
Ben Chociej, who lives near the proposed development said he likes the project idea, but is somewhat concerned about the decrease in privacy. Another nearby resident, Grant Glenn, was concerned about the character it would bring to the area.
Steve Choikhit, who owns Mission Mart across the street from the proposed site, said he was excited about the project.
If approved, developers estimated the project would take about 16 to 18 months to complete. They also would pursue tax-increment financing.
A planning commission meeting is set for Aug. 24.
Mission Bowl was destroyed in a two-alarm fire in April 2015.
