KANSAS CITY, Mo. — On Tuesday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned that a spread of coronavirus in the country is all but inevitable.
“It’s not so much a question of if this will happen anymore, but rather more a question of exactly when this will happen and how many people in this country will have severe illness,” Dr. Nancy Messonnier, director of the CDC’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, said in a conference call.
COVID-19, which was first detected in Wuhan, China, is now spreading from person to person, according to the CDC. In the United States, there have been 14 confirmed cases of coronavirus, including 12 travel-related cases and two that spread from person to person.
In the Kansas City metro, fewer than 10 people are being monitored for possible coronavirus in Kansas City, Missouri; and three people in Clay County are at “medium risk” for contracting coronavirus have self-quarantined.
