UPDATE, April 20 | The man who was shot and killed has been identified as Willie J. Hampton, 37, of Kansas City, Missouri.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol still is investigating the shooting.
ORIGINAL STORY | An off-duty, uniformed Raytown police officer shot and killed an armed man at Walmart on Saturday night.
Raytown Public Information Officer Dyon Harper said that around 8:10 p.m. a man armed with a gun entered the Walmart on East State Route 350.
The officer encountered the man and "shots were fired," according to Harper. The officer was not injured, but will be placed on routine administrative leave.
Missouri Highway Patrol will be conducting an investigation, according to Harper.
