KANSAS CITY, Mo. — As the holiday season begins, the American Red Cross wants to remember those who have served with the Veterans Sundry Drive.
This is the second year for this event. Last year, the Red Cross collected 10,000 items for area veterans.
"This drive is important because we want to help veterans have the personal care items that are otherwise unavailable or unaffordable to them," said Jason Ramlow, the region's deputy director of Service to the Armed Forces. "Even the smallest of items can make a big difference in letting a military veteran know how much their service continues to be appreciated."
These are some of the requested items:
Personal care: Alcohol-free mouthwash, toothpaste, large shower caps, deodorant, pre- and aftershave and toothbrushes.
Comfort items: Notepads (5x8), pens, electric shavers, wall clocks, cordless TV headsets and stamps.
Clothing (must be new): Undershirts, socks, sweatpants and underwear (for men or women).
Recreation/therapy: iTunes gift cards, Dollar General gift cards, large print word search books, iPod shuffles and iPads for music therapy, McDonald's gift cards, restaurant gift cards.
These items will be distributed at VA facilities, Missouri Veterans Homes and other veterans facilities.
You can drop off items at three locations in Missouri:
- Kansas City: 211 W. Armour Boulevard, Kansas City, MO 64111
- St. Joseph: 401 N. 12th St., St. Joseph, MO 64501
- St. Louis: 10195 Corporate Square Drive, St. Louis, MO 63132
The drive goes through Dec. 14.
