MANHATTAN, Kan. — Kansas State University officials said no injuries were reported and there was no ongoing threat after shots were fired on campus Thursday morning.

The incident happened around 11 a.m. in a parking lot north of the university's Foundation Building at Denison and Kimball avenues in Manhattan.

According to university police, the incident involved a dispute between individuals that began off-campus and continued into the parking lot of the Foundation Building, where shots were fired.

After the shooting, the victim, who is not a student, drove to the Riley County Police Department to report the incident, police said. Two bullet holes could be seen in the windshield.

No one has been arrested in the incident. It was not immediately clear how many people were involved in the dispute.

Students on campus said they feared the worst when the university sent a campus alert Thursday morning.

"I am from Colorado Springs, so that is home to me. Obviously Columbine is one of the first major school shootings in our time,” K-State senior Hannah Williams said.

With another recent Colorado school shooting fresh on the minds of many, some K-State students were on edge.

"My first reaction was...disbelief," said Sam Young, a graduate student. "I live in the area by there, like half a block away. I guess it was more relief when I got the email laying out everything."

The Foundation Building is located across from the football stadium on the northern part of campus.

"When you hear of things that are a lot more tragic going on, your mind jumps to hopefully this is not that sort of thing and what would happen if it did,” said Brad Galka, another graduate student.

Williams said that she appreciated the university's communication with students throughout the incident.

"I am thankful they let us know what was happening," she said. "We had no idea what was going on and it made it seem like it was going to be this whole bad thing that would make national news, but thankfully it's not."

A university spokesperson said the campus was not on full lockdown during the incident.

K-State police and the Riley County Police Department are continuing to investigate.

Anyone with more information is asked to call university police at 785-532-6412 or the Riley County Police Department at 785-537-2112. Tips may also be sent through the university's silent witness website.
