KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Local restaurants are getting ready for the big game on Sunday.

Mr. D's Donut Shop in Shawnee is making more than 1,000 donuts this week, and those are just for the orders they've received in advance.

Why so many orders? Because they're doing Chiefs-inspired donuts, from Patrick Mahomes to Arrowheads.

The pandemic is still taking a hit at places like Mr. D's so having the Chiefs go to the Super Bowl is a life-saver for them.

"All the restaurants are small businesses. We have a lot of loyal customers that came to help us out," said Johnny Chen with Mr. D's Donut Shop. "Some people buy one donut and give out $100 tip. We are in this great community and people love to help each other out."

Part of the proceeds from their donut sales will go to Patrick Mahomes' and Travis Kelce's foundations, 15 and The Mahomies and 87 & Running.

The donut shop will also be selling donuts Saturday & Sunday from 7 a.m. to noon or until sold out at the Lenexa Public Market.
