Revenue from Bird, Lime scooters could go to affordable housing in KCMO

Posted

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The tax money generated from the Bird and Lime scooters you see around the city could be going towards affordable housing.

The City of Kansas City, Missouri's housing committee passed the resolution after nearly two hours of debate.

Councilwoman Katheryn Shields said the roughly $300,000 a year could go to help low-income families since there isn't a dedicated funding source for this need.

However, other council members think money towards affordable housing should go through the traditional budgeting process and worry approving this will create budget restrictions.

The resolution goes to the full council on Thursday.
