KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One day after Kansas City, Missouri, police searched his restaurant in the West Bottoms, Brian Smith was denied a request for a bond reduction in Platte County.

Smith, 42, the owner of Rockstar Burgers at 1611 Genessee St. in KCMO, is facing charges of second-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action in Platte County.

A judge on Tuesday ordered Smith to remain jailed in Platte County without bond. His next court appearance is set for Tuesday, Dec. 17.

Smith is accused of hitting a woman in the head with a handgun at a Parkville apartment on Nov. 24. The woman told police that Smith had assaulted her in the past but did not file a police report out of fear.

On Monday, KCPD investigators searched all three floors of the building that houses Rockstar Burgers as part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged sexual assault that occurred in April. Rockstar Burgers closed last month amid protests about Smith and his business.

KCPD has urged possible other victims to contact police.

Smith faces up to seven years in prison on the domestic assault and armed criminal action charges in Platte County.
