KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Roeland Park city employees will now be able to get six weeks of paid parental leave.
The city council approved the policy at their meeting Monday night.
The policy would cover full-time employees who are new mothers, fathers or caretakers who are birthing, adopting or fostering a child. Eligible employees will receive six continuous weeks of pay in addition to any other leave that the employee is eligible.
Kansas City, Missouri is the only local government in the metro that has a similar policy. KCMO provides for six weeks of fully-paid leave for their employees.
No other Johnson County community has such a policy, though the cities of Lenexa, Mission, Merriam and Shawnee have expressed interest in pursuing such a policy.
