KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Instead of handling security from the Kansas City Royals dugout, one local man will soon take the field with them.

David Conchola has been on the Kansas City Police force for 20 years. For the past 12 years, he's worked off-duty at Kauffman Stadium.

On Wednesday, Conchola received an early birthday gift.

In 2009, Conchola attended the Royals Fantasy Camp. For his 50th birthday, he'll be going back thanks to another lifelong Royals fan.

"I don't win anything. I don't win lotteries, I don't win at gambling, nothing. I don't win anything and this is a total surprise and I can't thank him enough," said Conchola.

Sean Ashbury purchased a $4,000 spot at camp and wanted to give it to someone deserving.

Conchola will report to camp in Arizona at the end of January. There he will have the opportunity to meet and play alongside several former Major League players.
