KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals announced Wednesday that they reached an agreement to keep outfielder Alex Gordon on the team.

The club announced they signed Gordon to a one-year contract for the 2020 season.

The seven-time Rawlings Golden Glove Award winner's contract was up at the end of the 2019 season, and it was unclear if Gordon would return to the Royals.

Gordon has spent 13 years with the Royals and ranks among team greats like George Brett and Frank White for successes on the field.

As a result of the signing, the team designated pitcher Heath Fillmyer for assignment.
