KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One group wants to make sure everyone gets a Thanksgiving meal this holiday. On Thursday, the Salvation Army of Kansas and Western Missouri will provide a free, hot meal to whoever needs it.
The annual Thanksgiving tradition takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Salvation Army location at 101 W. Linwood Boulevard in Kansas City, Missouri.
The event is free and open to the public. Officials with the Salvation Army expect about 500 people to come eat the meal. Volunteers will deliver meals to hundreds more.
"Our Thanksgiving dinner has been a longtime holiday tradition and it has become among our most popular local volunteer opportunities. We are so grateful for the support of the community and our generous donors who allow us to share the spirit of Thanksgiving with those in need," said Major David Harvey in a statement.
Staff, officers and volunteers prepare 120 turkeys, and hundreds of pounds of mashed potatoes, stuffing and pie to make the event as traditional as possible.
