Police are investigating after someone broke into Santa Fe Trail Elementary in Overland Park shortly after 12 a.m. on Wednesday.

Authorities say the suspect broke through a window, the alarm went off and Prairie Village, Lenexa and Shawnee officers arrived on the scene.

Police also told 41 Action News that officers took a dog through the halls and thought they heard the suspect, but that person broke another window to get out.

They do not have anyone in custody at this time. School leaders say they will be doing a walk through later this morning to see if anything was stolen.

Overland Park police say they are looking for a suspect described as a slim white male, dark hair, about 6'0" tall. He was last seen fleeing southbound on Walmer Street driving a maroon sedan.

If you have any information, contact the Overland Park Police Department at 913-895-6300 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
