KANSAS CITY, Mo. — On Friday afternoon, Susan Kimpson was home when, all of a sudden, she heard what sounded like an explosion.
"I looked out the windows and I saw flames that seemed really close," Kimpson said. "I thought it was at the auto sales business two doors down from me."
What she heard — and then saw — was a semi hauling thousands of gallons of gasoline catching fire. Kimpson raced out of her home, grabbing her bird. She was scared the fire was going to spread.
"The flames were like two, almost three stories tall," Kimpson said, "and I was really scared because the wind was blowing so hard that day it was blowing the flames towards my house."
It took her two hours to get back and when she did, she found quite the mess.
"When I walked back into my house, I slipped because my feet were so oily from, I guess, the smoke and the oil," Kimpson said.
There also is smoke damage inside her house and her patio furniture is dirty.
Now, Kimpson wants to find the company who owned the truck to file a claim.
"I'm afraid to bring [some of my furniture] back in the house now because it might be toxic," Kimpson said.
